Electronic cigarettes - comparison of emitted particles
Buřil, Lukáš ; Elcner, Jakub (referee) ; Lízal, František (advisor)
This bachelor’s thesis focuses on the research and comparision of 3 electronic cigarretes with regard to emitted particles. The Subject of experiments was a small electronic cigarette cig-a-like, a common electronic cigarette GoTech eGo Ce4 and a higher class electronic cigarette iSmoka eLeaf iJust 2. For the purposes of this work an experimental track was constructed in the Laboratory of Aerosol Research at BUT FME. Emitted particles of cigarettes mentioned above were measured on this track by Lighthouse SOLAIR 3100 and TSI SMPS 3936. The aim of this thesis is to compare different types of electronic cigarettes.
Comparison of hookah, electronic cigarette and classic cigarettes in regard to emitted particles
Krátký, Štěpán ; Bělka, Miloslav (referee) ; Lízal, František (advisor)
This master’s thesis is focusing on the research of chosen smoking types and their comparison in regard to emitted particles. Aerosol created during smoking represents a serious threat for human health. For purposes of this work an experimental set-up was constructed in the Laboratory of Aerosol Research at BUT FME and experiments simulating smoking process were carried out. The results of these experiments are presenting objective information about the constitution of produced aerosol which enters smoker’s lungs. There are many myths about the harmful effects of different types of smoking. The goal of this work is to verify and resolve these myths and set the foundation for possible upcoming research in this area.
Health impact perceptions of alternative nicotine delivery systems among their users in the Czech Republic
Čukanová, Tereza ; Pánková, Alexandra (advisor) ; Králíková, Eva (referee)
Background: In the Czech Republic, there is over 2 million tobacco addicted people. However, it is difficult to get rid of this addiction unassisted, so some people switch to products with lower health risks. This bachelor's thesis deals with alternative nicotine products, especially heated tobacco and electronic cigarettes, and their impact on human health. Aims: The main aim of this study was to find out how users of nicotine products perceive the health effects on their body and whether they perceive a difference between conventional cigarettes, heated tobacco and electronic cigarettes. Furthermore, to map the use of alternative nicotine delivery products. Methods: Data were obtained in the form of quantitative research using a questionnaire survey. The questionnaire was developed on the basis of Google Forms. Subsequently, the data were transferred to MS Excel 365 and analyzed by means of methods of descriptive and analytical statistics. Results: 144 respondents took part in the survey a total of 180 respondents were approached, 36 respondents did not meet the required criteria. Of the 144 respondents, 67 were women (aged 18-75) and 77 were men (aged 18-75). The survey results show that respondents' attitudes and opinions about alternative products are ambivalent, but they perceive conventional...
Development of perceived use and use-related risks of electronic cigarettes, combustible tobacco and heated tobacco in czech adolescents
Pokorná, Vendula ; Lukavská, Kateřina (advisor) ; Vanek, Marián (referee)
In my diploma thesis, I deal with description of the prevalence of use of twelve tobacco products in the population of Prague high school students. For these tobacco products, I am also investigating the differences in their use with regard to gender and type of school. Therefore, I am looking for differences in their use between girls and boys and between students of grammar schools and secondary vocational schools. In the most widely used products - combustible tobacco, electronic cigarettes without nicotine, electronic cigarettes with nicotine and heated tobacco, I also examine differences in the intention to use them in the future between girls and boys and between students of gymnasiums and secondary vocational schools. Furthermore, I deal with one of the most important determinants of smoking - the perceived harm of tobacco products and examine how the perceived harm of combustible tobacco, electronic cigarettes and heated tobacco affects their use and the intention to use them in the future by Prague adolescents. The main goal of my thesis is to demonstrate the relationship between the perceived harm of tobacco products and their use and intention to use them in the future. The data was obtained thanks to cooperation with secondary schools in the capital city of Prague, specifically in...
Spectral analysis of thermal decomposition of drugs and cigarette smoke
Vodenková, Eva ; Ferus, Martin (advisor) ; Nejdl, Lukáš (referee)
This bachelor thesis is focused on the spectral analysis of combustion and thermolytic products of selected addictive substances. Spectral analyzes of smoke of various tobacco products (cigarette, electronic cigarettes, hookah) were performed in order to qualitatively determine the composition of smoke and compare the harmfulness of individual types. The main objective was to determine whether the electronic cigarettes are less harmful to health in terms of the composition of the main products detectable by high-resolution spectroscopy occurring in gas-phase smoke. Furthermore, the work deals with a more detailed analysis of drug thermolysis in a wider temperature range and repeatability of measurements over a longer period of time. New spectral single crystal radiation sources from Crytur were also used to measure absorption spectra and their applicability in the field of overton spectra was tested. All these measurements were performed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). For tobacco products, less compounds were detected in electronic cigarettes and hookahs than in conventional cigarettes. In the case of drugs, we were able to confirm the repeatability of measurements and determine the percentage of individual substances at different temperatures. Furthermore, the applicability...
The relationship between personality traits and attitudes toward electronic cigarettes in adolescents
Pokorná, Vendula ; Lukavská, Kateřina (advisor) ; Pavlas Martanová, Veronika (referee)
BAKALÁŘSKÁ PRÁCE The attitudes of adolecents towards e-cigarettes and tobacco Abstract In my bachelor thesis I deal with the attitudes of the czech adolescents (students of the first year of the the high school) to combustible cigarettes, electronic cigarettes and heated tabacco. I was interested especially in one concrete cognitive attitude - perceived risk of all mentioned products. The perceived risk of the electronic cigarette and of the heated tabacco I compared with the perceived risk of combustible cigarettes. My goal was also to find out whether the czech adolescents know how theese products function, since when it is possible to buy them and since when it is possible to use them. I aimed for finding out different predictors of percieved risk, such as gender, type of school and the knowledge of the certain product. I was also observing the relations between the perceived risk of the electronic cigarettes, the heated tabacco and the personal characteristics according to Big 5. The data has been gained through the cooperation with high schools of the capital city of Prague. School specialists of primar prevention had a very important function in the research, because they distributed the questionnaires to students in the schools. It has turned out that the czech adolescents perceive the electronic...

Abstract Aim of the work: The aim of this work was based on a questionnaire survey to find out the respondents' views on whether smoking cigarettes, electronic cigarettes and the use of heated tobacco affects body weight, including gender differences. The secondary aim was determined with any likelihood of replacing respondents who vape EC or use heated tobacco according to a variable flavor, food, or snack of EC or heated tobacco. Methods: An anonymous online questionnaire consisting of 18 questions was spreaded via Facebook in the Spolucestování, Kolej 17. listopadů and 1. LF UK Nutriční terapeuti interest groups from 21 April 2021 to 31 March 2021, as well as through the discussion forums of the eMimino and Mamaguru websites. Only individuals who smoke cigarettes, vape electronic cigarettes with nicotine or use heated tobacco could participate in the questionnaire survey. The questionnaire was completed by 190 respondents. , while 6 respondents were excluded due to incomplete answers or failure to meet the entry criteria. The final set includes 184 respondents. Results: The group of 184 respondents consisted of 101 women and 83 men. Average age of the group was 27.63 ± 8.20 years, average age of women 27.10 ± 7.53 years, average age of men 28.27 ± 8.96 years. The result shows that 34% of...
